The Cloncurry community extended a warm welcome to Her Excellency the Honourable Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM, the Governor of Queensland, on April 15th.

Accompanied by Mayor Greg Campbell, Her Excellency toured several iconic town sites before visiting the Cloncurry Hospital and the Cloncurry Community Health Clinic, aligning with her commitment to visit all public hospitals and health services in the State during her tenure.

Following a visit to John Flynn Place, a hub of historical significance, Her Excellency engaged with community members in the courtyard. In a poignant moment during the event, the Mitakoodi Elders Council (MEC) bestowed upon Her Excellency a special gift: an exquisite artwork by Daniel Kum Sing titled "The Rainbow Serpent’s Waterhole." This captivating piece not only serves as a testament to the region's Indigenous heritage but also symbolizes the enduring connection between the land, its people, and their ancestors.

The Mitakoodi Elders Council offers sincere appreciation to Her Excellency for her visit to Cloncurry. We also express gratitude to the Cloncurry Council for extending the invitation and to Daniel Kum Sing for his generous contribution of the artwork, which serves as a poignant reminder of the region's cultural richness and talent.
